EGB Engineering Sponsors Life-Changing Rams in Kenya 2024 Volunteer Trip

EGB Engineering Supports Rams in Kenya’s 2024 Efforts to Transform Lives in Nakuru’s Schools

EGB Engineering is proud to have sponsored the 2024 Rams in Kenya trip, an annual initiative that brings volunteers to Nakuru, Kenya, to support educational facilities and enhance opportunities for children in some of the area’s most underserved schools. Organised in collaboration with African Adventures and facilitated by the Derby County Community Trust, the Rams in Kenya trip focuses on improving facilities, safety, and learning resources for local students. Since the project began in 2012, more than 500 volunteers have worked on impactful projects at these schools, providing critical support to the community.

This year’s volunteers, including returning participant and organiser Simone Etienne, dedicated their time and skills to essential projects at Cherish Exchange Foundation School. Recent floods had damaged the school’s perimeter wall, making the first priority a rebuild to ensure a safe learning environment for both children and staff. Thanks to sponsorship from EGB Engineering and other contributors, the wall was successfully reconstructed, with volunteers even learning traditional Kenyan bricklaying methods along the way.

The volunteers’ efforts went beyond construction; they provided invaluable classroom support by assisting with lessons, teaching dance routines, and helping teachers mark students’ work. They also donated sports equipment, art supplies, uniforms, and other resources to introduce new activities and enrich the educational experience. One of the trip’s highlights was a sports day, which Simone Etienne and other volunteers organised, bringing joy, laughter, and friendly competition to students and teachers alike.

In addition to these immediate improvements, several volunteers committed to ongoing support, with some, including Simone, opting to contribute monthly to fund fresh fruit deliveries for the students. The generosity of EGB Engineering and other sponsors, such as Derby Sign and Graphics, Brownz Hair Salon, Trimz Barbers, and others, enabled volunteers to bring essential resources—ranging from nutritious food to uniforms—that have a lasting impact on these students’ daily lives.

EGB Engineering’s sponsorship and commitment to this project have helped make the 2024 Rams in Kenya trip an unforgettable experience, fostering long-lasting benefits for both the volunteers and the children of Nakuru. The company looks forward to continuing its support for initiatives that build stronger communities and positive change across the globe.
